Georger,

Sorry, I’m not following...what does Lake Merwin have to do with Tena Bar or the Columbia River?

The first claimed LZ was Merwin Lake 1971-76....  Globe even wanted the Lake searched by divers... several searches were made. Then in 1980 money turns up at Tina Bar.

Was Cooper money in Merwin Lake before it appeared at Tina Bar?  Are diatoms in Merwin the same as those at Tina Bar?   Merwin Lake must be ruled out by the evidence.

I think dredging could explain how the money became buried as deep as it was. Not sure the diatom research supports the money sitting at the bottom of the Columbia for years though. Maybe?

Let's back up. Are there diatoms in Lake Merwin? Was the Cooper money ever in Lake Merwin?

Someone should re-interview atty Stephen P Rickles of Portland and find out who Globe Indemnity sold its  Cooper bills to ?

I actually have talked with Rickles and he stated that he has no idea what happened to the bills after Global took possession of their portion. Moreover, he stated that when the company went out of business--or whatever happened to it--all his files related to the money were sent to the company which he believes was in Charlotte.

What's your premise? That the Tena Bar money was planted?

I would be interested if there are any diatoms specific to Lake Merwin or any other bodies of water on the bills.

...I personally like the polls, especially when I first joined.  I feel that once you've been on here for a while, you kind of get an idea of who thinks what, but I would be curious to see a breakout of the main posters on here (maybe 20 to 30 of us) and what they think of the main categories.  Just for fun, even though most of us probably already know how our colleagues feel, for instance, EU and R99 are into the Western Flight Path, but listening to Bruce on the Cooper Vortex, it sounds like he's warming up to it.  Updated polls might be cool (but only from registered members).

Lived or died?
How money got to Tina Bar?
Did he spend the money?
Which flight path?
Was he experienced in aviation?
Did he work at Boeing?
Particles on the tie?

Castle, here's how I'd place my bets from my a $100 stake.

1. Lived: $50.
2. Money at T-Bar: $10, (buried by DBC)
3. Spend any? $5
4. WFP: $20
5. Av experience: $5 (pilot, etc.)
6. Boeing? $5
7. Particles. $5 (in terms of the particles originating from DBC's lifestyle or work)

I'd also wager other bets, from my winnings above:

1. DBC was a commando: $50.
2. Sanctioned op:             $25
3. Stayed hidden in a SOG-like environment afterwards: $20
4. Never asked about it: $5.

Extra Credit, or Doubled Down:

1. Did DBC have an extraction team?    $50.
2. How many on the team?                  $25 on 4.
3. Was McCoy part of it?                      $25 on "Yes."

I think I'd clear $500 from y'all... smile....

No premise. Just being thorough. Covering bases ..........  because somebody will jump up and say money was in Merwin Lake first then retrieved and planted at Tina Bar, os some such ... It would be interesting to know how Merwin and Columbia compare diatom-wise.

 Lake Merwin Diatoms

Georger asks a valid question so I looked into it. I was quite surprised to find that Merwin does in fact have Asterionella and Fragilaria. For those that want to support a Merwin landing it looked good at first. However, there is third very abundant species apparently called Ceratium which has a very distinct shape and I am very confident we didn't find any on the bills. So Merwin might be a very small possibility but odds still favor Columbia as the diatom source.
I am trying to get the original research so this story might not be over. I will keep you posted.

Vancouver lake?

I suspect that Vancouver Lake is exactly like the Columbia River because it's connected to the Columbia River north of Tena Bar.

Vancouver Lake

Spring bloom, diatoms out-competed by other organisms. Only species mentioned is extremely common in many water bodies, no mention of our key species.

The water go in or out of there?

It appears to me that it all flows north--even the Lake River portion--meaning it would take in Columbia River water. That said, I cannot confirm that. It's all about the same elevation.

Vancouver lake?

There is a "flushing channel", south of Caterpillar Island, that connects the Columbia River to Vancouver Lake.  It can be Googled for more information, but it is quite small and apparently has a gate at the Columbia end.

Its purpose is to flush the Vancouver Lake due to build-up of various chemicals that drain into the lake from the city of Vancouver and maybe nearby farm land.  I have never seen a drop of water in it and the last time I saw it it looked like it was in desperate need of being thoroughly bush hogged.

The only water exit from Vancouver Lake is apparently Lake River which enters the Columbia River about 15 miles north of Tina Bar.

Every body of water in the vicinity should be checked since some believe flooding had something to do with moving the money..
