I believe McCoy went back the next day...

Remember these critical factors concerning McCoy vs Cooper:

1) McCoy successfully landed in his intended LZ. Cooper likely did not.

2) McCoy had no immediate need to worry about being pegged as the hijacker. Cooper, on the other hand, left his tie and tie clip onboard. He would have certainly been concerned about that fact.

3) McCoy got caught because he was reckless--talked about it in advance and hid the money in his closet. Cooper, on the other hand, got away. Put another way, Richard Floyd McCoy was no DB Cooper.

I don't believe Cooper, if he needed to get back close to the area would have any trouble, especially at night. he would blend right in with everyone else. he went unnoticed walking for 8 miles plus right after it happened and nobody seen him.

I agree. He could have gone back to Tena Bar at anytime. However, he would have been concerned that he was a suspect considering he left his tie and tie clip on the jet, and if he had been an employee of Boeing.

I'm giving a typical response surrounding criminals while you seem to know what Cooper would do personally vs typical..he had the balls to do the crime in the first place. I doubt having to dance around them on the ground would scare him off. we have no idea why he even did this other than speculation..is it plausible, sure...

DB Cooper was not a typical criminal. He's a very rare breed who got away with it.

I've discussed this fact with 377 multiple times. While we understand well how the criminal mind works, all of this knowledge is the by-product of studying the minds of those who got caught. On the other hand, we really don't understand the criminal minds of those who didn't get caught nearly as well. After all, they're not around to study.

Nothing would be able to link him to that tie in 1971 unless he purchased it days before and somewhere close to the crime. I think a lot of people know prints can't be lifted off of fabric in 1971..neither one had any worries of being ID'd that quick unless they opened there mouth as McCoy did.

Taking risks is a big part of being a criminal..McCoy helped look for himself in a helicopter, went back got the money and went downhill from there...Cooper put his life on the line in the hijacking and the jump..I just don't believe he would be intimidated enough to wait on them to stop searching outside the area where he planted the money...

How could he be certain that they couldn't lift a fingerprint off of the tie clip? Or, that the authorities don't put both the tie and tie clip on TV asking if anyone recognizes them?

If Cooper was worried about evidence being shown he would of noticed it reading the newspaper, radio or television while getting info on the flooding..

McNally, this guy landed and heard the helicopters and went to sleep under the canopy..he was a known criminal and did certain things typical of one...so did McCoy who wasn't a criminal..they can all be smart and do things that are not rational...the crime itself for one...

Keep in mind that in the 1971 time frame, prints had to be matched by humans and that required a lot of time.  And unless the FBI could make some guesses as to the "population" that Cooper came from, he might never be identified even if he was caught in some other matter.
