And this has what to do with the Tina Bar money find?  It's a bit off topic I'd say.  Let's get back on track.

Yes I will go prepared with Camera, compass, altimeter, and perhaps a S&W as there have been some Cougars spotted in the area ! It's been a very wet winter around these parts so I might need a 4 wheel drive and a come a long which I always carry when I'm out in the woods. My wife will not be happy if I take her 4 wheel drive Honda so I'm stuck with my 2 wheel drive Ranger. I'm pretty sure my friend has a 4 wheel drive PU. It might be a few weeks but I'll report back ASAP. Yes elevation is on the top of my list.

I neglected to mention earlier that if you have a hand-held GPS that has a read-out for the coordinates, you can probably also use it to determine the altitude of the placard find location.  The GPS and altimeter read-outs can be compared, but I consider the GPS altitude indication to be more accurate based on my personal experience with different hand-held GPS instruments.

BTW, just for interest sake, the listed USGS elevations for surrounding locations are:

Silver Lake:   Mean Water Elevation, 158 m (518 ft)
Castle Rock:  Elevation,  14.9 m (49-56 ft) rock edifice: 190 ft
Toutle:  Elevation,  152 m (499 ft)

How much more time do we have with the tides?

Kermit:  Did you get a chance to look at the Columbia River lately?  High tides should start backing off pretty soon, if we can get the rain to stop around here?  It just doesn't let up, unbelievable!

Yes I was there 2 days ago ! River still very high as rain continues. I think we are overdue for a dying period soon.

Kermit try 46°14’35.40”N 122°41’1”W for the location of the placard find. These coordinates may have come from Tom Kaye ?

This sits out in the middle of nowhere - see map small version. The lake at about 11:00 oclock from the placard location red pin is Silver Lake. I have a 10mb hi resolution version of this map now if you want a copy. We can arrange to get it to you if you are interested.

Thanks,
G.

Hearing nothing back I will send R99, Meyer, and Shutter hard copies of the map and one of them can supply you with a copy.

In the meantime all you need to do is enter 46°14’35.40”N 122°41’1”W just as written into Google maps and it will take you straight to a map of the location, any resolution you want.  Thanks and good luck.

<edit> and that has been done ...

Kermit,

Meyer has several topographical charts for that area that I gave him in 2013.  They are about the most detailed that you will be able to find and, hopefully, include the placard find location.  Check the maps to see if they are WGS84 charts, but even if not, they will be accurate to within about 200 feet (east-west) or about 20 feet (north-south).

Those GPS coordinates that are floating around did come from Tom Kaye.  It seems that the family that found the placard took Tom Kaye to the location where it was found and Tom recorded the GPS coordinates.

No problem. One account is the guys were walking a logging road picking up trash as they went and noticed the placard 'just off to the side of the road'. That is exactly what these coordinates show so maybe they are accurate?

If Cooper peeled the placard off might a print still be on it?

When you peel something off, you apply a lot of thumb to finger pressure which should leave a pretty good print. Might even be a print preserved on the adhesive side.

I have seen literally hundreds of stickers applied to the inside and OUTSIDE of skydiving jumpships and they seem to stay in place for years.

I've always thought he ripped it off in anger while trying to get the stairs down.

it's far to late for prints. dozens probably handled it over the years.his would of been smeared, more than likely anyway.
