Tom said there was tons of match residue on the tie, confirming probable smoker, right?
I think he said this, when deciding whether it was probably Cooper's tie?

That's my understanding. That said, there should also be cigarette residue all over the tie and it should smell like smoke.

Sheridan could have started smoking after leaving Claire
Or any time between '63 and '71. Maybe in Vietnam.

It could have been a temporary habit.
So maybe Claire wouldn't know during the right time frame.

This is true. Also 377 said he knew of a lot of guys that started smoking in Nam.

In his book, he has some passages which imply his characters would have a smoke or drink with some people.
I can look for those passages later.
If he talks about either of his characters smoking, then I'd say Sheridan smoked in Vietnam..based on the usual way Sheridan writes detail
(like I already mentioned how the occasional shot of bourbon is in the book. Nice to see Claire say that Sheridan had the occasional bourbon)

Still wondering if the tie particles could be from minerals in soil in Vietnam (not WA)

It's really weird that Sailshaw said Sheridan smoked outside.
Sheridan could have started smoking immediately after leaving Claire.

Unless we say Sailshaw was wrong. But Sailshaw seemed credible?

BTW, I think I previously posted that he wrote for a paper in Wenatchee. I believe that is incorrect. Claire confirmed that he worked for one of two papers that was in the Tri-Cities and that one of them folded.

Yeah I figured that was wrong.
I don't think Sheridan had a car then, and I couldn't imagine him working so far from Richland.
I don't know if Sheridan has ever owned a car, actually.

when he lost his job they went on public assistance and he got the job at the World's Fair. Claire said she remembers loading Sheridan in the car with the kids and driving to Benton City and dropping Sheridan off on the side of the road with his wearing a suit and tie to hitchhike up to Seattle.

Well, the Minnesota knowledge, and the possible untruth around the Filipina wife is pretty interesting.
Good job on the interview.

Need to get to Ginger or Sheridan Jr I think.
That might be hard.

Did anyone ever have a lead on Sheridan Jr? He doesn't talk about Sheridan Jr as much. I actually thought maybe he had gone to the Phillipines with the wife when she "died" and then was kept maybe by relatives or something. Just a guess.

Also, I asked if JC Penny sounded like the kind of place Sheridan would shop. She told me, yes as a matter of fact that's where we always shopped when we had some money to buy clothes.

Maybe the Filipina left for the same reason: maybe was violent with her too.

One of Petey's neighbors in Windsor told me she thinks he killed his Philippian wife. The neighbor also said she was afraid of Sheridan and glad that he got kicked out of the facility.

I did know several high school classmates who took up smoking in Vietnam. I got the impression it was pretty common.

Sheridan wasnt a soldier in Vietnam but he said he saw the horrors of that war up close.

Interesting Bruce. But probably just speculation? Unless Sheridan said something weird?
Good on the JC Penney's shopping EU. Hmm. a lot of circumstantial things.

Okay I'm going to go out on the speculative limb here on the Filipina.

-I'm assuming birth control was not well practiced, based on Sheridan's writings and real-life.
-So assume the Filipina got pregnant within a year of meeting Sheridan.
-So that means, given the '70 birth, they probably met in Vietnam, around '68..he wasn't at Clark Air Base.

In 1968, Sheridan was 42. Given his sexual proclivities as described in his book, I'm guessing he was after younger woman. The Filipina probably wasn't married before, and didn't have any prior kids.
So I'm guessing she was 22 to 25..i.e. twenty years younger than Sheridan
That would put her at 72 years old or so.

So might still be alive.

What do people think about this speculation?

I'm thinking the move to Nepal may have been half-precipitated by her getting pregnant...It's possible she disappeared shortly after '73 maybe..hence no more kids. Maybe the move back to Vietnam was also connected with her leaving the scene? Who took care of the new kids when Sheridan went back to Vietnam?

If she stayed around much after '72, I would have thought there would be another kid in '74 and then maybe '76 given Sheridan's pattern with Claire

What do people think about this speculation? I can't imagine much birth control in Nepal.
