Hahneman told neighbours he was in Guatemala, Honduras and Cambodia... all had CIA covert operations including Phnom Penh.

We know, one of the Cooper clues was that he said the 727 could take off with rear stairs open. We know about the 727 CIA drop tests. But the video shows two different 727 configurations. The rear stairs were not lowered for drops, they were removed.

What if COOPER knew it could take off NOT with rear stairs open but NO rear stairs at all. In this short version of the CIA 727 airdrop test there are actually 2 different plane configurations shown, the first with rear stairs and second with a slide and NO rear stairs at all. Clearly, it took off with rear stairs removed and if COOPER had witnessed that 727 anywhere in South East Asia he would have inferred that a passenger 727 could take off with rear stairs open.

So, COOPER didn't need 727 rear stair experience, expert/technical knowledge or 727 jump experience, he just needed to witness that 727 without the rear stairs. This is supported by his lack of knowledge and trouble operating the rear airstairs.

At 1:26 of video, slide with no rear airstairs at all.

Flyjack,

I think you are on the right track here.  Note also that this CIA Southern Air Transport 727 has a side cargo door and it would also require that the cabin floor be strengthened to support those cargo pallets.  And this convertible cargo version of the 727 didn't come along until the passenger version had been in use for several years.

Good work.

Thus, Ckret's idea that Cooper might have been a cargo loader specialist. So nothing new in any of this.

Clarify the point,

"Cooper" may have only witnessed the modified 727 in SA without the rear stairs. NOT involved in any specific operation, jumping or cargo.

Just seeing the plane, even parked without the rear stairs infers that it could take off with them open.

The previous discussion has been that "Cooper" was exposed to that plane via jumping or cargo. Anyone, just witnessing that modified 727 would know it could take off with stairs open.

Cooper's first order about stairs was to the pilots. He ordered them to take off with stairs down. Then he ordered them to have Tina 'open the door'. Then he ordered the cockpit to 'lower the stairs'. His assumption was that except for opening the door all stair controls 'were in the cockpit with the pilots'.  This is how I read his orders, and his sequence of orders. (and what he knew and did not know) It doesn't appear he had too much first hand knowledge of stair operation in the 727.

And if he was Sheridan Peterson who roomed with Sailshaw who worked at Boeing etc, he would have known that, one might think? If Cooper worked for Boeing he would have known that. If Cooper had many flights on a 727 he would have known that. If he was a cargo loader on a 727 he sure as hell would have known that. If he had had even one flight on a 727 he would have known that! ?

Just seeing a 727 takeoff and land with the aft stairs down does not mean that Cooper knew the stairs could be lowered in flight.  If Cooper thought there was the possibility of a "squat switch" in the aft stairs electrical system, he probably thought that the flight engineer could pull a circuit breaker and disable it and that may be what he meant in his argument with Rataczak.

In fact, it appears that neither Rataczak nor Cooper knew much about lowering the aft stairs.

Not sure if you guys have covered this Nov 1971 CIA document..

While the "test" video clearly shows 727 airdrops with NO rear airstairs.. this CIA document confirms SAT 727 drop capability via rear ventral exit beyond testing.. and SAT operations were authorized worldwide.

"Southern, operates seven transport category aircraft consisting of two leased Boeing 727 convertible (passenger and cargo) jet aircraft which are used primarily on Military Airlift Command (MAC) operations in the Far East,"

"PRIMARILY" - WERE THEY ALSO USED ELSEWHERE?

"Southern has CAB authority to engage in Supplemental Air Transportation with respect to "outsize" cargo to any place in the world."

"The Boeing 727 aircraft also have drop capabilities out the ventral exit which can be opened in flight and Southern has crews trained in this procedure. The typical capacity and range of the 727 is 105 passengers or 33,000 pounds of cargo with a range of 1,900 statute miles."

THEY MAY BE REFERRING TO THE REAR PRESSURIZED BULKHEAD DOOR NOT THE AIRSTAIRS.

"Southern has numerous well trained and dedicated employees, most of whom have been with the Company for many years and are well versed in the operation of aviation activities. At April 30, 1971, this staff included 55 management administrative and general office employees, 67 flight personnel, 56 mechanics and technical service personnel, 14 ground operations personnel and 42 traffic personnel. The current employment is approximately the same."

"In summary, Southern has extensive worldwide authority, the personnel, facilities and capability to deliver anything any place in the world on short notice and to establish an aviation activity any place in the world."

Sorry to ask but can't find it.  What is "Southern"? We're they an American flying outfit involved with the CIA similar to Air America?   If so, nice find.  I'd like to see the list of those employees.

Hey guys,
Probably the youngest Cooperite that I know of. I'll be around (hopefully) long after any suspect has passed and carry the torch.

Something is bothering me. What do you guys make of Rackstraw commenting on forums and all of the weird **** that he does? It is strange as heck. I don't feel like it's something your every day middle class retiree would do, which is what Rackstraw seems like to me. Is he just a strange fellow?

There are reports of a 727 making airdrops in South America but no reliable data on airline, dates or purpose.

Weird 727 mystery. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

December 1967 - CIA

"Preview and editing of an agency produced film on use of a Boeing 727 aircraft in making personnel and cargo drops."

"produced" is crossed out and "operational" hand written

"Preview and editing of an agency operational film on use of a Boeing 727 aircraft in making personnel and cargo drops."

Not sure if this is referring to the clip in the known youtube vid... if so, it dates the test to 1967

Don't be surprised if Drbilly and Nicky are the same person and that they have also had arguments with each other.  That's just everday life in Cooper land.

And so are nearly four million people. Considering the DB Cooper incident occurred in my state that would increase the possibility that someone from Washington would be a Cooperite as well. So the analysis that me being from the same city as someone else who is posting on a Cooper website means we are one in the same is a complete fallacy of thought. It's really too bad you are such grumpy hermits. I was hoping to join this page and soak up all the information about Cooper I could. But I see the page holds nothing but grumpy old men who have no better past time then forming a clique online and harassing anyone who stops by. SAD!

And if I remember correctly, several on this page accused Nicky and Rackstraw of being one in the same. Which was the basis of some of my comment.

Derek Godsey awhile back told me he posed as a woman and fooled Rackstraw and from it learned that Nicky was in fact  Rackstraw
