My guess from witness descriptions that his hair was at least dyed and/or possible a toupe.  Not too sure about tinted-contacts though.  Just s thought.

Didn’t the college kid state that Cooper’s hair was a mess or awful. (Can’t remember the exact quote in Bruce Smith’s book).   What did he mean by that?   Was he criticizing the haircut, the fact that his was receding, or was it just dirty?   Odd that stewardesses didn’t comment on this.

Yes, on a lot of issues Bill Mitchell's characterizations of DB Cooper do not comport with other witnesses, especially Tina's, such as the hair and DBC's general appearance. More troubling, Bill refuses to discuss these differences, or explain them more fully.

Basically, Bill tells his story, and then goes home. He clammed up on me, and his conversations with the WSHM staff seemed one-sided. The only one that Bill exchanges any back and forth seems to be Tom Colbert, although Galen reports that he had a couple of beers with Bill over a period of two hours about 7-8 years ago.  I suspect Tom pays Bill, so I am assuming that is why Bill stays in the room.

over the years I've been suspect to what Bill really seen. he seems to back away from things when confronted..I do understand that time erases memory, but he almost avoids things, or has an answer ready to respond with..I'm wondering if this helped fill in his ego and attention he appears to have needed at his age...

Except Bill brought to the party a few special skills. 1. Paint store skills. 2. An eye for details. 3. He actually paid some attention to Cooper and what was going on next to him. He was young and curious.

He added detail to the stews' 'wavy hair'. Bill said 'marcelled' which is specific. Instead of black or dark brown he said 'russet'. He noted the briefcase in subject's lap and unusual activity vis-a-vis the briefcase. He noted the subject was getting a lot of special attention from the stews. Bill also seems to have been 'uncomfortable' with the unusual activity going on next to him vis-a-vis the subject. It wasn't an ordinary routine air plane ride!

Good points all G.

Bill wanted to know why this guy was getting so much attn from an attractive stew. That caused him to look at DBC critically... along the lines of what's so special about him compared to me? That caused him to notice the "turkey gobble" and other appearance details.

Bill fingering Rackstraw as McCoy, and what it really meant, will be debated forever. I think Bill believed he had seen Rackstraw's image before.  Something was familiar about it. Was it on the plane as DBC or was it in news articles about McCoy?

Tina, who was certainly no burnt out PTSD husk, said she didn't recognize Rackstraw.

Rackstraw is still quite an interesting candidate. He had all the skills and was a hardcore criminal sociopath in need of money. Rackstraw was smart, cunning and creative. His age seems wrong but who knows if makeup and other cosmetic alterations could have disguised DBCs real age? As an explosive expert, his bomb real or fake would have looked real. I don't think Rackstraw would likely get the dynamite stick colors wrong.

I'm sorry to see Tom's investigation come to an end, but I sure understand his reasons. He has done us all a huge service in getting the FBI to release more data. I VERY much look forward to seeing him participate here.

Bill was young with all the powers young people have for observation! Kind of admire the guy. I think he would have been fun in a class - that's how he strikes me. Im also glad it didn't come down to a physical contest between him and C. Another good decision on Bill's part. I like that guy.  He has the luxury of thinking about it and talking about it today ... which C doesnt have.

Now if we could stumble across how his money got to Tena Bar!

Guess Tom will be joining us here - that should be interesting!  ;)  I hope he brings some of his team with him!!  :chr2:

Bill (young college guy) testified about the turkey gobble neck and DB’s awful hair.  It was another passenger who owned the paint store and claimed D.B. was wearing a russet jacket and had marcelled hair.  I think this other witness (Mr Gregory?) was seated further away and may have been affected by different lighting.  Newly dyed black hair is very shiny/glossy.  The extra shine may have made it look marcelled from a distance.

It's Robert Gregory.(Russet coat, marcelled hair, mid-30s, 5'8", thin - owned a paint store)

Also, Mr. Gregory doesn't remember exactly where he sat - remember, he probably sat in two seats - one for the majority of the flight and then a second when he moved up for the landing upon the request of Alice/the Captain depending on whom you chose to believe.

But before he moved forward Gregory probably sat in 15-16 D/E/F according to FBI docs from Colbert. The one 302 that puts Gregory in 18C is most likely incorrect, as another 302 puts Cooper there, but that too, is most likely incorrect, as most 302s say Coop was in 18E. And Billy says he was in 18B and his books were in 18C.

I don't think that is quite the case, Georger. Bill is under some kind of pressure. He chooses to talk to some folks and not others for unknown reasons. Yet, he is fundamentally a nice, funny guy who wants to do the right thing. When he clammed up on me, he called me and left a phone message telling me he wanted no further contact. But in our first (and only) conversation he was light-hearted and good-natured. It was a fun interview.

Galen says the same thing. Plus, he was forth-coming with Vicki and Mark, producing his 305 tix.

Yet, the Bill Mitchell I saw in the HC doc was much different. He looked stressed and tight-lipped. And now, Colbert has spun his words. Whew.

Actually, he told me what he wanted most was to take a nap. Yeah, he was smitten with Tina (who isn't?!) but I didn't get the picture that Bill was oogling the action in 18-D/E all flight.

I think you might be onto something, here, Shut, with this observation.

Then vs now. You guys are wrapped up in "now". His testimony on 305 was almost 50 years ago. Why would he be current today with a 20 year old body and mind? Why would anyone judge him for his performance today as if today was 1971?? You guys are acting like 1971 was yesterday! Nobody could live up to those standards. Fact is he was young and bright, tired, curious, questioning, observant,  ... and none of you were even there!  ;) Force him to submit to a lie detector test if you need one!

... and now he is inconsistent, flakey, rude, flat, worried-looking, and isolative.

What does that tell us? It's the lens through which we view the past.
