I still consider myself a Newby as I haven't been involved in any of the earlier events. I like logical thinking and that has caused me to look at this Cooper caper in a different way. I know it's been 46 years ago and many people have lost interest in the whole mystery. For that reason I understand that TV shows like the History Channel has merit in bringing the caper back into the news. However as I watched the show, it had credibility only up until the ridiculous end part that was all about Josh parachuting close to Reno. There is nothing logical to back up this part of the story.
I haven't heard any update on Tom Colbert's latest story. It also seems to contain lots of parts that seem illogical to me. Am I alone on this ? There must be someone out there that either is Dan Cooper OR actually knows who he was. Perhaps the main reason no one has come forward is that they fear they would be prosecuted for hindering prosecution. Perhaps 377 could answer that question. Maybe the only way the FBI will ever find out what happened is for them to grant immunity to anyone who might have hindered in any way. I realize that they will NEVER pardon Cooper and they shouldn't. However I just don't see any way that nobody knows who really did it. JMHO
As a somewhat newbie guy, Kerm, I'm glad you still have the courage to post amongst us cranky old-timers.
BTW: The Reno jump scenario was featured in Josh Gates' episode of Expedition Unknown on the Travel Channel. The History Channel docu, "DB Cooper, Case Closed?" is a whole other animal/beast. Like you, I think the Reno jump scenario is spurious. (Did you see me earlier in the episode? Hunh, hunh? I was the fat guy on the beach wearing a T shirt that said, "I'm not DB Cooper.")
Ahem. Now, back to your commentary...DB Cooper's continued isolation and utter silence about his identity suggests to me a few things. One is that he came from and returned to a very private world where secrets are kept religiously, so to speak. Like covert ops, the CIA, Seal Team Six, etc.
The other locale or environment to harbor a DB Cooper is a personal world of "grudge," such as the Joe Lakich character that Bill Rollins has identified. A regular guy, law-bidding, who experienced an immense betrayal, let's say by the government - or in Lakich's case the FBI - and the loss of his daughter due to FBI stupidity and ineffective protocols. A docu is being produced currently on how the "58 November" incident effected the FBI, J. Edgar, and law enforcement in general. It may have also spawned a skyjacking.
