Dated December 24, 2016

According to The Seattle Times, the new suspect, yet to be identified, died of natural causes ten years ago; however, there are plenty of pieces of circumstantial evidence that have drawn the FBI's attention, most specifically a curious auto accident he reported in 1971 right after the incident, possibly to explain away his injuries. The deceased man's family is reportedly working closely with the FBI to turn over personal items which could potentially contain the fingerprints or DNA needed to generate a clear answer.

Is this who they were talking about before closing the case?

The link to the Seattle Times in this article doesn't go anywhere.  I also searched on the Seattle Times site for "D.B. Cooper" and it didn't turn up anything recently.

Bruce's email from Ayn Dietrich-Williams wouldn't come out and say it, but referred him to a suspect that was receiving publicity five years ago -- which would have been L.D. Cooper.  Marla confirmed  the FBI had found fingerprints from L.D. and tested them in 2016.  If you follow that reasoning, that means the FBI hasn't looked at any new suspects in over five years.

That'd be great! Only issue is that the case has been locked up by the FBI, i.e. unless relevant and substantial evidence is found, it's unlikely they'll reopen the case. Hopefully in the coming years (2017? ;) ) the FBI will be offered new evidence so that they can reopen the case. Shame they ever stopped the active search..

40 plus years is a long time...imagine the thousands of false leads and dead ends they went through..I don't like them closing the case, but can understand them reaching wits end with the whole thing...

Thank you for the warm welcome! I've been reviewing the files since I got home from work! This forum is a goldmine of likeminded individuals and I can't believe I hadn't found it sooner considering my (and all of our) fascination with the Cooper case!

Greetings Sleuths. Hope this finds you all well. Been out of the loop of course, something I read today in the Daily Mail interested me. The link is below and in the final paragraph it says the titanium could have come from someone who worked at "companies who recovered scrap metal in these types of factories". Well my guy worked at the  Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company in 1969. (He was living in Seattle at the time). Whaddya think? Could Chicago Pneumatic fall under the type of companies that recovered scrap metal in those types of fabrication facilities? Not remotely suggesting this is any sort of smoking gun but Kaye had dismissed my guys job at CPT saying the titanium would be alloyed by the time it got to CPT's plant which I accepted but that is assuming they only purchased alloyed titanium and doesn't consider whether they ever would have recovered scrap metal. Maybe my question is if Chicago Pneumatic is not the type of company described in the article as one that may recover scrap metal from a fabrication facility then well golly who is?

Howdy Kid, longtime...

I would tend to believe Cooper worked in manufacturing more than being a Boeing employee (my opinion). the trick seems to be finding all the particles in one place. then you have the pesky question of who's tie it really was. did Cooper purchase it prior to the hijacking, or was it really his?

Alright so imagine this, is it crazy to think it's  more likely to be someone  who went around picking up scrap metal from various facilities than someone who only worked in one facility. If there's something to this then hey talk about narrowing down the search.

I don't think scrap metal as a business, or even extra cash was around in 70's like it is today.

The article suggests :"Secondarily would be the companies who recovered scrap metal from these types of factories." I'm just saying whoever the employees that work for a company that buys up scrap metal may be more likely to have more metals on their tie than someone who just works at a plant that may only work with the titanium.

And...a guy who works with scrap is wearing a tie because....?

Regardless, welcome back, Kid.
