As long as we're airing grammatical grievances,

It's jibe, not jive;
"Begging the Question" is a specific informal fallacy also called "petitio principii" or "circular reasoning."

Carry on.

Georger, Re: Your question on the ground search:

Since "who" is preceded by the preposition "by," the proper form of the object would be "whom." For instance: "Who coordinated the ground search." Or, "The ground search was coordinated by whom?"

It didn't seem to interfere with your understanding what I said, or asked! Or do you have two sets of answers? One for "who" vs. another set for "whom"?

Do you correct the people you are interviewing on the phone?

At what age did you start telling people what to think and do ? Whom does your moral superiority stem from who?

Noted parachute expert and author Dan Poynter has died. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Dan literally wrote the book on parachute hardware. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Want to know about Cooper chutes? NB 8, NB 6 and C 9 info? It's all in his book.

377

So, what did he know about Cooper's chutes, Three? Or are you saying he was knowledgeable about the NB-8, 6 and C-9, in general?

Dan wasn't a Cooperite, but he knew A LOT about chutes of the Cooper era and was an expert on military gear used in civilian applications including NB 8 NB 6 and C-9s. He could tell you about various versions, engineering changes during the product life, specs, who made them (many diff mfrs) etc. He was a Master Rigger and meticulous parachute historian. We talked about C-9s and how damned tough they are. They are built way beyond what is actually needed in structural strength and energy dissipation ability. If you need to get out of an SR 71 that is breaking up out of control at Mach 3+ you want a C-9. It's your best shot at surviving. Not that I can prove it could take a Mach 3+ opening, it couldn't, but it sure could survive one FAR in excess of the placarded 150 mph max limit most civilian chutes have.

Why is it so hard to find information about dummy chutes? I've found some, but it doesn't seem to be a hot topic. same for photo's of them. I've yet to see one with a red X....

Only when necessary.

Pretty young age, as I recall. I have had a strong sense of superiority and entitlement, basically for as long as I can remember.

You?

I'm not sure there is any standard for dummy chutes. I've seen a few and they vary. Seen chest reserve dummies spray painted dayglo orange. Seen others with felt pen X markings. Seen some with neat cloth tape labels.

Dona Elliott

Just got an email from Ted Skillman at LMNO saying that Dona Elliott had passed away.  WOW!

I don't know any details, but will post as soon as I get some.

Rest in Peace, Dona.
