Update on Larry Carr

Larry emailed me this week and said he would be willing to have an interview with me in September, presumably once he is retired from the FBI.
If anyone has burning questions you'd like me to ask Larry, let me know!

Also, he confirmed that he had received a copy of my book, so hopefully he will take a look at it.

hey how come I'm not invited to said interview?
My questions mostly have to do with his work in Iraq.

Snow, you are always invited to my interviews with DBC notables. Will you show up in person?
What are your questions about Iraq? Just curious. I didn't know Larry was in Iraq. Military?

You didn't know Larry was sent there as part of an "investigation" after the Blackwater shootout?
Geez, you and Larry have a lot of catching up to do.
See how much he says.

I recently purchased a baseball/football card collection from a buddy of mine who is getting out of the hobby. I was going through some of the cards last night and found this little gem. It wasn't the Mike Trout rookie card that I was hoping for, but it's pretty cool. I thought I'd share...

You should have it appraised.  I found a Jack Kemp 1962 card in a Dr Seuss book of mine in mint condition.  Back in the late 80s.  It disappeared.  No doubt my ex wife had her brother pawn it.

In a rare display of cleanliness, and an even more remote act of tidiness in the basement, my mother threw out my shoeboxes full of baseball cards. She never admitted to the deed, either. Sigh....

News from Jerry Thomas

Jerry phoned me a couple of days ago and left a message, saying that his wife, Shelly, had passed away. I had met her and Jerry at the 2011 DBC conference in Portland. She was 52 years old when she passed, Jerry said.

For those not familiar with Jerry Thomas, he was a foremost researcher back a few years ago. He posted daily at the DZ, and has appeared in a number of documentaries, most recently the HBO special titled: Mysteries of DB Cooper. He was a close associate of Ralph Himmelsbach, and in fact, Jerry told me that he considered Ralph to be a "second father." I invoked that closeness when Ralph charged out of his house when I drove up to his place unannounced. I thought Ralph was tear me a new one, and he immediately calmed down once I called out, "Hey Ralph, Jerry Thomas told me it would be okay if I just dropped by to ask you a couple of questions about DB Cooper." Saved my ass.

Sorry to hear about Jerry's wife.

Why doesn't Jerry come around anymore? Has he successfully left the vortex?

was answered years ago - you werent around... what vortex?  The vortex is a social media invention by some.   Jerry is ok. Shelly has been dealing with health issues for years ... she had a long productive good life. She is missed by all .....

Give Jerry a call and express your sentiments personally ...

Hmm.
Dunno about that. Jerry had the "social media" bullying behaviors down pat, in my view.

Older generations like to believe "social media" bad behavior is a product of newer generations, but I think it's the other way around.

Which is why the trump generation went nuts when they were handed a new technology. There were always nuts, just not enabled with comms.

Video Tour of V-23 from the Air

New Video on v-23 is out on YouTube. It's made by a fellow named "Bill" who calls himself SOG Pilot. His commentary is cockamamie, but I loved seeing Cooper Country from the air. It was brought to my attention today by Flyjack. Two short videos.

Besides the overflight stuff, number one video has an interview with a so-called "eye-witness" from Sea-Tac, a baggage guy named John Roe who says he was working for Pan-Am and saw the whole ground drama. But most of what he says so sounds way off base, too. But it's interesting.

Note: SOG Pilot is totally enamored with Dan Gryder, so... you've been duly informed.... I guess those pilot guys gotta stick together.

Er, Snow, the cargo guy's "eye-witness" account is full of holes. The aft stairs was deployed? Where are the pix of that? All the narratives I'm aware of talk about the air stairs being driven up to the forward entrance. The witnesses I've talked to all say that two guys came on board with the money, then Tina got the parachutes via the same stairs.

Further, how far away was the guy? 305 was parked at the end of a taxiway at the end of 16L. The passengers needed a bus to get them to the terminal, and it was raining. That is pretty far for the cargo guy, and to see in the dark, in the rain? Hmmm.

I guess I ought to talk with John Roe and clarify things a bit.

Snowmman, how far do you estimate this fellow was from the remote area where the airliner parked on that dark and rainy night?

Oh, so he thinks McCoy was the bird?  Was the real Cooper?  I am really leaning that way

I think the starting point for investigating "John Roe" claims isn't digging into minutiae about his memories..since human memory is faulty and it was long ago.

Verify his employment that he claims. ID card etc. He probably would still have some evidence of his employment.

You guys are way too wound up about proving this or that "fact".

Start with proving or disproving whether the dude could have a story to tell.
