Looks like no collisions occurred?

He only clipped a car while landing....

I don't think he told them he was low on fuel. they wouldn't let him land at Fort Lauderdale due to traffic, so they passed him off to Miami International, he couldn't make that distance and ended up on the highway. a serious communication gap occurred. they could of diverted him to Fort lauderdale executive airport, or Perry airport, or allowed him to land at his intended target (Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale)

He ran out of fuel minutes after they refused to allow him to land?

Reluctance to declare an emergency when stacked up iand running low on fuel has had fatal (and avoidable) consequences: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Whats the standard procedure while on approach and they wave you off, but what would they do if you tell them you are running low on fuel? I'm guessing this will end up being a pilot error....

After reading the article 377 posted, I see he should have been allowed to land...

The pilot should have told the tower about the low fuel situation.  Nevertheless, when push comes to shove, you go ahead and land regardless of what the tower says.  In the final analysis, the pilot is the sole authority on the operation of his aircraft.  The tower is advisory.

That airplane could have landed on a taxi way, the grass alongside a runway, or even on a ramp.  It could be easily stopped in less than 500 feet after touchdown.

The pilot and tower personnel could haggle over the matter later.

Yup, that plane belly-flopped not too far from MY home! I didn't get to see it as the cops roped off the area pretty quick, and it was in a wooded estate area. Oyster Bay Cove, I believe.

landing on a highway seems drastic to me IF there is any airport within range.  ;D

Thanks, Georger.

We've got brilliantly blue skies here in Cooper Country today, so I expect to see the Super-Dooper eclipse. But sunset is only 10 minutes before the full onset of the eclipse, so it might get tricky.

There was heavy interest here, at all area observatories. Skies were excellent. Thanks for your links - Clear Skies.

Bruce I saw a news clips including footage from the west - showing moon rising before sunset with eclipse in progress - it as a gorgeous sight! Take a look here on ABC. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Yes, the shots of the moon that show the local environment in a dusky twilight were cool.

But, in my part of Cooper County, I went out at 7 pm to see what was happening and had to contend with a 14, 410 foot mountain being in the way, plus all my neighbor's trees. Then my ex called to wish me a happy birthday....so by the time I got back the moon was plenty high enough but was just coming out of totality - 8:10-ish. Beautiful, red, big, but the thing that struck me was that the world was so quiet.

The next thing that impressed me was how bright the full moon was after the eclipse - whew - hardly a star could be seen.

Moon Schmoon (actually the blood moon eclipse was spectacular from my location) the important sky news is SURFACE WATER ON MARS!!!

Salty, seepy, BUT WATER! Now why havent we found any evidence of life? I think Bruce needs to do some remote viewing in a new location.
