Is that a side band freq.?

I used sideband, USB. AM operation is OK on that freq too.

Too bad Cooper didn't use a radio. He could have reached a CB radio equipped car MANY miles away using a CB walkie talkie under canopy. If he could describe his location a rendezvous might have been possible.

I used to be a freefall addict, using up every inch until the minimum pull altitude. I now really like the high openings. The radio jumps are fun, cruising around up there, looking at a fantastic view of N California while working enthusiastic hams thrilled to get such a rare contact. And only $24 for the ride up. Such a deal.

Cossey Update

Good news. Sgt Cindi West has just rotated back into her old job as PIO at the Kings County Sheriff's Office. I asked her about the Cossey homicide investigation and she said she was wondering about it, too. She promised to make inquiries and get back to me.

Sgt West is my favorite PIO, so I'm hoping for something good.

Apparently Kenny Christiansen was a busy guy. hijacking planes, and now if I'm reading Paul's reply correctly, he was the Zodiac killer....

I'd jump with a 1967 vintage CB AM walkie talkie if someone with a car CB would guarantee to show up within say 50 miles of the DZ. CB is dead around here. My ham friends hold their noses at the mere mention of CB.

He only clipped a car while landing....

I don't think he told them he was low on fuel. they wouldn't let him land at Fort Lauderdale due to traffic, so they passed him off to Miami International, he couldn't make that distance and ended up on the highway. a serious communication gap occurred. they could of diverted him to Fort lauderdale executive airport, or Perry airport, or allowed him to land at his intended target (Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale)

He ran out of fuel minutes after they refused to allow him to land?
