Was hot as hell at Byron yesterday, over 100 F, but radio jump was successful. Made about a dozen contacts out to 125 miles on 28.425 MHz, 5 watts, right next to CB frequencies. Interestingly one contact was a ham in a car over 100 miles away. I exited at 13,500, was open at about 12,000, spent about 700 ft kicking out line twists then deployed my end fed dipole trailing wire antenna (small enough to store in a Ziplock bag) and started working stations. Jettisoned my antenna at 1700 ft but unfortunately did it when I was in the sun, ground crew couldn't see it falling to earth with its orange streamer. Lost it in 7 ft high weeds. Oh well.
Attached is a photo taken yesterday showing radio pouch front mounted.
