CooperCon 2019--48th Anniversary--info.
I'll be updating the CooperCon website this coming week with more specifics.
CooperCon 2019 will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 22 - Sunday, Nov. 24. It will take place in both Portland and Vancouver. The presentation portion of CooperCon will be on Saturday, November 23. This will be at the Kiggins Theatre in Vancouver. Both Friday the 22nd and Sunday the 24th will be dedicated to social endeavors including, DB Cooper-related movies and docs, the DB Cooper escape room at NW Escape Experience, a boat tour out to Tena Bar (weather permitting) and getting together for drinks and food at a Portland brew-pub each night.
Saturday's presentations will include contributions from the following:
1) Mark Metzler
2) Bruce Smith
3) Tom Kaye (re-play of his 2018 presentation)
4) Marty Andrade
5) Darren Schafer
6) Vern Jones
7) Tom Colbert (he stated that he has it on the calendar, however, a surrogate may be employed).
Eric Ulis
9) Others are being approached.
In addition, there will be significant changes from last year's event as follows:
1) Food will be close by.
2) There will be a "Jeopardy" trivia event involving the audience.
3) There will be a panel of guests who actually lived in Portland/Vancouver at the time of the skyjacking and will discuss personal recollections of the day and how they were impacted.
4) There will not be separate presentations given related to individual suspects, rather, there will be a panel discussion that includes authors familiar with specific suspects engaging with the audience and taking questions.
5) There will be some hands-on displays related to artifacts and evidence in the case.
This will be a fun and informative event over the entirety of 2 1/2 days. Of course, books and other media will be available for those interested. There will also be a fee associated with Saturday's presentation--probably $10.
If anyone has any other thoughts or ideas regarding CooperCon 2019 please let me know. Truth be told there simply isn't enough time available over a single day to get into all of the subjects that people would like to discuss. Nonetheless, hopefully this year's event will lead to an even bigger event in 2020.
Cheers!
