Shutter:  I asked Bruce Smith how tall was Ted Mayfield and the answer was "5ft 3inch."
Too short to be DB Cooper! End of that discussion!

Good job, Bruce.  Here's an interesting news piece on Mr, Mayfield, may he rest in peace:

Georger  you say:  "The problem is Peterson does not fit the physical description."

I say:   What are you talking about. His eyes were identified as "brown" but that could been his only disguise to through off the FBI and Georger. Sheridan met all the descriptions except the eyes which were most likely covered with brown cosmetic lens (either store bought or home made) and explains why he wore sun glasses for most of the skyjacking and only prodadly showed off his "brown eyes" to the two Flight Attendants. Are the eyes the only physical description that you think does not match Peterson? He was six feet tall with olive complextion. right age, right build and an expert/instructor skydiver with the most knowledge of the 727 Aft Airstairs. The eyes were his only disguise using cosmetic lens..

check out the match to the sketches
Sailshaw, what year was this photo of Peterson taken?  I think we discussed it before, but I can't find the post.  Thanks.

"Gwen said that Ted died Friday, about 2:30 pm. He was hand-starting a plane located in his backyard and the prop caught, nearly severing his arm. Gwen said that Ted "just wanted to listen to the engine." Because Ted had been taking a blood-thinning medicine called Warfarin, he bleed out within minutes."

What a shame. I wonder if a quickly applied tourniquet might have saved his life?

RIP

I've wondered that as well, 377. I guess it speaks to the nature of the injury and how it occurred.  Was Ted E lying on the ground and in a position to receive a tourniquet? And where on the arm was the injury. Up by the shoulder doesn't give much for a tourniquet to be applied.

AS always, what captured my attention most is the view Gwen had of her dad, and the fierceness she displayed in protecting that image of her father.

A friend of Ted's a pilot by the name of Trig Johnston, is going to meet for a cup of coffee to discuss Tom Bohan. They were friends and fellow pilots. Trig says he's got some important and pertinent information on the events of November 24, 1971.

Not from Captain Bohan.

Bruce, see if Johnston has any information on where Captain Bohan's famous headwind came from.  And perhaps you could inquire if Johnston has an explanation as to why the actual measured weather on November 24th, 1971 doesn't support Bohan's claims.

And if Bohan actually flew from Seattle to Portland at the same time NWA 305 was passing through that area headed for Reno, maybe Johnston could come up with some of Bohan's log entries.

He suggests that we ask Bohan's widow to make copies of his log book to better understand what was going on. I concur.

Trig believes that Ted Mayfield was set up and harassed by the FBI and FAA for reasons that are not clear to me. He says he will tell me the full story over coffee. (Sigh.)

I will certainly delve into the reported 80 knot wind gusts from 165 degrees and how the Continental flight was allowed to creep up on 305's tail when so many other planes were kept on the ground for hours, such as Everett Johnson's craft.

Bohan's wife has none of her husband's flight logs etc! Why would she!? She never had. Nada! We went over all of this years ago ... its a dead end. Go back and read the thread at DZ!
