Thanks Bruce. Glad she seems to be doing better. Phone call? Nah. With email I have control over timing and duration of comms. Jo is legendary for frequent lengthy calls. I like to be polite. With emails I never have to hang up on Jo.

To this day Jo totally ignores my opinion on the impossibility of the miniaturized high tech stuff she is certain Duane used for navigation during his 1971 Cooper flight. Vibrating VOR detecting corset, imagined “tower beacons” and special gear derived from radiolocation technology stolen by the govt from a private inventor, he had it all. Oh, don’t forget Duane’s miracle Mobile CB rig that also worked as a VHF aviation band transceiver.

And she still won’t admit she’s wrong about prison inmate smoke jumpers. That article she claims to have seen was a hallucination.

Aside from these and other minor discrepancies, she has “proof” that Duane was DB Cooper. It’s beyond any reasonable doubt.

Whoever a new suspect pops up she always discovers a direct connection to Duane. See eg Rackstraw, Peterson, etc. Not so with Reca which is noteworthy. Jo does have certain standards.

Bless her heart though. She has become a part of the Cooper landscape. She got the FBI to take Duane as a serous suspect for a while.  She got people to exhume a long dead dog. She has been interviewed by authors and journalists. Duane’s Cooper legacy is in good hands. Jo is a very accomplished Weber promoter.

On the show Pawn Stars someone was trying to pawn some Cooper memorabilia (I can’t remember what) and one screen it said “D.B. Cooper was believed to be Duane Weber”.  That was all Jo’s doing.  Larry Carr said “I have Duane’s file on my desk”, so she got the FBI to take a look at him.  That is more than Tom Colbert was able to get and he had a lot more resources.  So, I agree with you.

I've often pondered the appropriate balance of Cooper suspects and the due diligence that the media should exercise before running with a guy.

Having a regular flow of suspects come on the scene helps keep the story alive, but this comes at a price. Eventually, the facts get bastardized to such a degree that they no longer matter. More importantly, a perfectly sound suspect can come on the scene--Sheridan Peterson for example--and the media simply decides that the audience has had enough DB Cooper for awhile. As if we're all involved in some grand production that requires focus groups and strategy sessions to determine when and where the next suspect will be allowed to be released to the masses.

I don't know what the answer is. What I do expect is that as the 50th Anniversary rolls around we are going to get bombarded with the Hollywood-azation of the DB Cooper case. On measure I'm not sure this is a good thing.

As for me, I am going to do my level best to close the deal on my suspect while I still have a chance.

Its hard for me to get excited about any suspect except Fly's suspect comes as close as any for me. Without hard evidence how is any suspect going to be vetted? Somebody needs to find some twenties in someone's personal papers or closet!

It seems that we have hit a dry spell, with no posts for a day or two. Or is my computer asking weird, again?

Jo Weber and Hurricane Michael Update

Upon your urging, Shut, I called Jo to see how she is faring. She just put up her storm shutters to protect a pair of sliding doors and two large windows on her house's east side. She said she has a "roommate" these days who was helping, but the two of them still needed assistance from the neighbors across the street.

Jo said she's feeling pretty secure - doesn't expect any storm surge to reach her, but is much more concerned about a creek and lake next to her backyard.

As for preparations, she has one flashlight that doesn't work reliably, but seems in good spirits. She told me to tell everyone here, "Howdy, from that raging, crazy bitch!" That made me laugh out loud. (My best laugh of the day, too!)

She said the hurricane is expected to hit her in the early morning, 7 am-ish. But conditions are normal for now. She is concerned about the winds that are coming towards her - now posted at 130mph and speculated to go higher by the time it hits shore. "My roof is 18 years old, so I'm worried about how it will do," she said.

As always, Jo complained about her computer, lack of service, and her inability to visit this forum.... sigh.....

But she asked that I call back in a few days to see how she is. I promised, and I'll keep y'all posted.

Thanks for calling....

she needs to cover ALL the windows...many people believe they should only cover the side where the storm is approaching...a hurricane will put a positive and negative load on your home...it will breath for better words..barrel tiles are the worst enemy to windows..she really needs to hunker down for this storm..

I tried for weeks helping with viewing the forum...couldn't figure out what she was doing wrong...

Will do. You don't think "Mrs. DB Cooper, Panhandle Florida" will do it?

I have a variety of medications that might help you, Shut. Shall I send you a few choice selections?

BTW: I have hung up SO MANY times on Jo that when I called tonight she said right away: "SO, to what do I owe the pleasure of this phone call, Bruce?"
