In order to become legitimate with a business that uses drones you have to go through the FAA. at this moment it's illegal to use drones for commercial use. they are actually going after people posting video's on You Tube showing drones. they claim money is being made by showing these video's falling into commercial use.
Drones are being used in Real Estate, and they have already shut some down. what is confusing is what height is really considered FAA regulated airspace? if you fly 40 feet up in the air to take video of a house how can the FAA stop you, or 5 feet off the ground?
Others jumping on board are law enforcement, fire departments, City inspections, engineering companies. Amazon is trying to start a delivery system. I don't see this happening in the near future. this would open the door to dozens of companies flying unattended flight paths all over the place. that's a little different from others flying in the general area with line of sight.
As of March 23, 2015, the FAA will automatically grant a "blanket" COA for flights at or below 200 feet to any UAS operator with a Section 333 exemption, provided the aircraft weighs less than 55 pounds, but getting the exemption seems to be the problem. hundreds have filed but only a handful have been granted. it's turned into a cluster F**k of red tape, and grey area's.
At one point they were requiring a pilots licence. that's a little extreme. which would they require, helicopter, or fixed wing, Cessna, or Commercial airlines? would four electric motors fall under multi-engine aircraft?
