I'm going to remove myself from this whole bizarre tale until Cooper's loot is found at Tom Colbert's secret location. In any Math problem, IF Any part of the formula is untrue, the entire result is bogus. There are so many impossibilities presented in this tale that I'm out of the discussion unless someone needs my input for some reason.

I can certainly understand your position.

Tom Colbert has bypassed independent review and control. Anything is possible. Tom Colbert's closed group of "experts" and "officials" apparently don't know how to conduct open peer review 'science'. Contrast that with how Travel Channel's Josh Gates conducted his work.

Speaking of that....whatever happened with the small metal ring they found at T-bar?  Supposedly it was sent for testing.  I assume nothing of importance came from it...

There wasn't anything to test about that ring.  When dug out of the ground, it appeared to have been something that had been part of a tie-down from a barge cover that was used to cover fruits and grains that were shipped down the Columbia River for export.

There were also braided metallic cables, well over an inch in diameter, just a few feet from where the ring was found.  All of this was about 10 to 15 feet above the Columbia River water level that day.

In any event, the ring didn't morph into part of a parachute ripcord.  If Gates had wanted to see what a ripcord looks like, I would have shown him the ripcord and other parachute equipment, that was in the trunk of my car just a few hundred feet away from where the ring was found.

I have a lot of respect for Tom, but I'm disappointed in his actions. a lot of this could of easily been pointed out to him had he notified me, or many of us on this forum.

Personally, I would of been digging all around that area looking for more evidence. it just seems odd that they stopped and let the authorities try it, or what ever they are doing. if you go by the story, the story tells you that Cooper buried the chute and money, so they should be very close to each other. the story about the plane goes beyond the first evening, and it's obvious that the money couldn't have gone into the river as they thought, so it sounds like another folklore similar to Brian believing that Cooper walked by the store on that "rainy" evening. once again we have Cooper all over the place with nothing to back up the statements. IMHO this was released far too early in the investigation...

I say let's go digging. The FBI walked away from this in 2016, so I say the moolah is up for grabs.

I guess I should of said that I would keep digging if I believed the story and location to be true. I don't really think anything is there, but that's my take on this...nothing wrong with getting permission to poke around...

We need to know a lot more about the location. Lumber Farm covers a lot of territory. Is it a saw mill. A farm with a saw mill? ??

the airport they speak of is northeast of Battleground, and they claim he jumped close to where the FBI believed, so it's somewhere in that area. I guess the 8:12-13 location? for them to pinpoint the location and missing by only 1300 feet sends up more red flags IMO.

Since I obviously have lots of concerns about Tom Colbert's latest disclosure, I think we should start a list of our concerns. I would suggest we start with 1. Highly unlikely to have happened. 2. Totally impossible. We could then address our concerns one at a time and give each one it's pros and cons ! I will start it off with totally impossible.
Its totally impossible for any of the money arriving at Tina Bar via the dredging of Vancouver Lake. Why ? The dredging didn't even start until May, 1982. I'm sure we have a few more. This isn't bashing but simply asking how !

Maybe just list the claims - they are so many!

1. Hijacking was a conspiracy (3 or more people who had knowledge of it.).
2. Weird man was seen carrying brief case in the rain in a remote location near LaCentre.
3. Nobody apparently saw weird man get on a private plane.
4. Hijacker buried chute and money in the area where he landed ? Artifacts have been found, sent for analysis.
5. Private plane with weird tail lite was circling the area during the hijacking and landed in a clearing after being in the area (practicing) for several days.
6. Private plane transported hijacker to ...
7. Private plane transported hijacker to Vancouver Lake where they dropped the chute and briefcase into the lake (same chute and briefcase and money as they claim is buried near LaCenter), then spread $50k of Cooper money over the mud lake. All items sunk due it being a muddy lake. This was supposed to convince FBI Cooper had landed at Vancouver Lake and died in his drop. Ploy failed to convince FBI Cooper was dead some date uncertain ...
8. Dreding spoil of Vancouver Lake was dumped at Tina Bar which accounts for Schreuder's money fragments at Tina Bar. Date of this dredging not stated by Colbert etal!
9. 1980 Named person goes back to Tina Bar and buries Ingram bundles for Ingram to find, to convince a second time the FBI that Cooper est morte?

Please fill in, amend, whatever as seen fit.

Rank each Colbert claim above according to level of belief.

[sources for above: Colbert pdf sent many and news coverage statements] Shutter has yet to post Colbert's pdf at this website but has been given permission to do so.

Frankly, I am in total shock that some folks believe these claims are even believable.  But it's a free country, anybody can believe what they choose to believe.  These claims already do not hold up under any kind of scrutiny.  I'm quite shocked, actually.... but it is what it is.

On a positive note though (yes folks, even I, Meyer Louie, can say something positive about guys named Tom), Colbert's efforts to get information procured and available via FOIA is commendable.  Also, his History Channel program got key Cooper people to come out again -- something I thought was not even remotely possible -  Tina, Rataczak, Curtis Eng, Ckret's appearance, and others.  True, the producers made it all happen, but Colbert was there and his guy was being scrutinized.

Til now I haven't looked at that part of the story however, when I first read this in TC's pdf it rang bells. I think TC is connecting with old stories in the Cooper case. The story about a 'weird guy walking out of a clearing in the rain with a briefcase' is very old. The private plane being seen is old, and may have been researched previously. We covered some of this ground clear back in 08/09 while we were at DZ. Over this weekend I will refresh my memory and maybe make a few calls. But when I first read this I thought 'TC is tapping into old stories...' These stories were open ended and unresolved, I think. Fertile territory ...

TC has a fixation on a plane being part of the getaway. The last time I talked with him, 18 months ago, he was quite passionate about it. But when I pressed for details he got vague and dismissive. He even seemed resentful. That's the big issue I have with Tommy. When I don't jump enthusiastically on the Colbert Express he gets huffy, and eventually blows me off. He usually drops a rebuke at the very end before he hangs up, too. I don't like guys who like leaving a stink in the room, if you catch my drift.

And his characterizations of Bill Mitchell's response to the CCT's six pack is shameful. Plus, his failure to properly accredit me and the Mountain News in his Getaway packet is another needless snub.

Yes, I do appreciate TJC's work, especially the FOIA from the feddies, but Tom's a mixed bag.

Well, as long as 'personalities' are on the table, the one thing I and others have always liked about you - is your librarian role! Yes Bruce, you are a pretty good librarian. You have a skill for remembering, cataloging, and filing details ... that is basically why so many people go to you for (all kinds of things Cooper). One problem however is its easy to get buried under one's 'books and files etc'. Nobody can remember or retrieve instantly everything. But you do have a good memory and sooner or later you do seem to be able to go back and pull information out. Few people even want that role. :)

TC has no doubts. He also says that the members of his CCT have no doubts.
