I agree 100 % with what Shutter just said about not bashing TLC and I guess I'm guilty also. HOWEVER there are several aspects of this story that certainly seem to defy logic and the facts. Am I just looking at everything wrong ? I have to add another puzzle that baffles my mathematical brain. Coop dumped $50,000 into Vancouver Lake the night of the heist. Then his accomplaces buried the remaining $$150,000 in this secret place where it hopefully still remains. However when the $50,000 attempt to convince FBI that Coop was dead, in 1980 they planted $5800 at Tina Bar in another attempt to convince authorities that Coop ( Rackshaw ) had died. My question is simply ! Where did the $5800 found at Tina Bar come from ? Did they dig up the $ 150,000 they had buried and grab $5800 to plant at Tina Bar and then rebuy the rest ? It's wrong to bash BUT is it wrong to ask questions ?

I'm not trying to be negative but I'd really want to know where the $5800 came from ? Any ideas out there ?
It just seems like $50,000 plus $150,000 = $200,000 and 8'years later we add another $5800 ! It's a proven fact that the $5800 was the ransom $$ so did I miss the part of them digging up the $150,000"they buried ?

Kermit, there never was any "$5800" dollars except as a media figure! Even Himmelsbach said the actual amount was "undetermined". Schreuder said "uncountable". The figure "$5800" came from the number of serial numbers that the FBI had been able to count by 'press time' in 1980 and the figure continued to be used, to this day - so the figure was tossed out and stuck just like name 'DB' Cooper became the standard name used by the public for the hijacker.

Many bills in the Ingram money were stuck together. Prior to the money being sent into the lab for separation and examination, the count given to the press and public was $5800.

I guess I'm not getting my point across. It's not important whether the amount found at Tina Bar is $5800, $5600, $4800 or $2500. Where did the Money come from IF Coop dumped $50,000 in Lake Vancouver and buried the other $150,000 at this secret place ?

Your point is well taken, Kermit.  My guess is the answer will be that the $150k and $50k numbers were approximations, and that some of the money could have been kept by the perp(s), and not relayed or lost in the get away story.  But I agree this needs to be specifically answered.

I'm also still having a problem with a bigger picture issue, mentioned by Bruce above, of: what were these people doing all this time with this knowledge?  They reportedly went to the FBI in 2007 and got no where, and then nobody in Cooper world has heard of this story, and potential burial location, for 10 years?  I suppose it could be explained away...just seems odd no-one has heard of the "other Coopers" or this getaway story from someone else in that amount of time.   :-\

I love this! Simple answer is: he didn't!  ;)  And the rest of the story is nonsense too.

Plus, no one has heard of Russ or Kristy.

I'll be trying to contact them again, but that could be tougher. Their story got covered by FOX News today, and MSN picked it up, so it's spreading across the Known Universe now.

Maybe they were busy, attending community college to become bar tenders, or something.  :)

Some implausible explanation I am sure.

Maybe Aunt Jenny's cow died and that delayed normal human activity for all of these people who knew the truth, for a full 40 years?

All they had to do was go over there to Vancouver Lake where the island had been built and do some diggin - six feet down was $40,000 to buy a whole herd of cows! Some people just dont think or plan ahead to the next move? Some people are still waiting for Columbus to come back and find the Northwest Passage!

Update on Colbert's Revelations - 2017

In case you missed FOX News' coverage of TJCs' revelations today, I wrote Ayn Dietrich-Williams to see how involved the Seattle Division might be. Colbert bypassed Seattle and gave the alleged harness strap to local FBI agents in Ventura, California.

Here's Ayn's reply:

Hi, Bruce--

As you know, the FBI does not typically confirm or deny the routine activities we perform in the course of our investigative work, to include meetings or receiving tips. However, I can reassure you that the FBI's Seattle Field Office will review any physical items possibly related to the parachute or money taken by the NORJAK hijacker. Based on that review, the FBI will take any appropriate action.

Just wondering why no CNN, NPR, or major network coverage? Any coverage by KING-TV News there in WA?

Surprisingly, no.  I haven't seen any coverage by the Seattle Times or any of the TV stations.  True or not, it's a story of local interest.

I've read all the posts about the other Tom now....you really don't want to hear what I'm thinking right now, so I'll take the high road this time and let it go.  I like what Georger and Kermit had to say about Tom's findings and conclusions... my sentiments exactly.  I'll leave it at that.

I don't know what that is, but it is not a part of a parachute strap or a parachute.  It is far to wide and in much, much worse shape than a part of a parachute would be.  Parachute fabrics are treated to be impervious to such things as water.  I have seen pictures of parachutes that were submerged in water for decades and they still appeared to be in quite good condition.

Looks like old burlap (feed sack) material to me. I dont believe Cooper-Wake Feeds ever made it that far north, or west from Chicago?

Could Cooper have swapped out the money bag for a feed sack in mid air before landing?  Or maybe he had a burlap bag stitched to his ass, in case of hard landing?

I don't think so. ;D  But that could be part of a burlap bag.  Unless the parachute, including all of its metal parts, is found within a few inches of this thing, then we can forget about all the money that is suppose to be buried there as well.

That is no parachute fabric. Are these guys in the twilight zone?

Most metal parachute harness-container functional hardware is unique and is either cadmium plated steel or stainless steel. There are some parts that will rust like the button snaps on covers, but all the load bearing stuff would stand up to decades if not centuries of harsh outdoor exposure and remain intact and identifiable. Finding parachute harness-container fabric without any metal parts nearby sounds pretty unlikely.
