I do look in at his site, but have fought the urge to join. The only reason that I ever thought about joining was so that I could point out all of the BS in the Kenny story (again). But, dialogue is what has kept that story alive for far too long. Now, without any dialogue, it is dying a slow painful death and I'm damn sure not going to be the one to help bring it back to life. Rest in peace, Kenny.

When I first saw the post on Blevins site the other day about him helping to get the Ariel store up and running again, I thought it was a noble gesture and a cool thing to do. I don't have any ill feelings for Blevins, and if he does something cool I'm an honest enough person to recognize it. I even thought that I may even pony up a hundred bucks for the cause. But then I read this email that Bruce got from the son who now owns the place, and I'm really puzzled. Why, if you're trying to raise funds to get this store back up and running, would you alienate the small - very small - group of people who actually give a shit about the DB Cooper case??? Why turn down an interview for The Mountain News?? If one person reads that interview, and donates money of any amount, then the interview was well worth it. I just don't get it. I also don't get why Bruce is a bad guy for not staying in touch since the death of his mother. This guy has obviously been influenced heavily by Blevins, who is still butt hurt over not being allowed to be on this forum. Bottom line, I'll just donate my hundred bucks to the Trump campaign, or stock my fridge with a few cases of Miller Lite.

How about 70 bucks to The Donald, and 30 to BAS and I'll mail you an autographed copy of the book about the Not Michael Cooper Skyjacking (along with an address...).

And Happy Birthday to EVicki, too! (And thank you to Facebook for reminding us.)

Bruce, that is an excellent idea! If I remember correctly, I need to pay for that with a check?

Yes. 36320 Pulford Rd E - Eatonville, WA 98328. Mucho gracias!

In Illinois for work right now. I'll get a check headed your way when I get back home at the end of the week.

No rush - it is a 44-year old case.

For one thing, we know Blevins thinks he "owns" the DB Cooper story! Woodruff may have similar goals!

I think Georger nailed it.  It appears he is Bryan's press representative. From "Unsolved Crimes":

Since there have been many complaints from some members of 'The DB Cooper Forum,' a website on the famous hijacking hosted by Dave Brown, our staff here at AB would like to set the record straight on a number of things for them. We have seen many of the recent posts done by members at Brown's website, and would like to address them. Some were extremely impolite. Recently, we attempted to contact administrator Dave Brown, (username: 'Shutter') about this situation using two different sending addresses, but our emails to him were ignored.

We have seen complaints claiming that one of your members, Bruce A. Smith, was denied a request for an interview regarding our upcoming fundraising effort for the famous Ariel General Store and Tavern, located in Ariel, WA. Supposedly, Smith wanted to write an article about the reopening of the Ariel store, and a fundraiser Adventure Books is coordinating to assist in this project. (The Ariel Store closed late last year when owner Dona Elliot passed away, and has been taken over by her son, Bryan Woodruff.)

ANSWER: This claim by Smith is simply not true. In reality, Smith was offered exclusive access to family pictures from the Elliot family, and an interview in a question-and-answer format. We had two requirements for this. First, that Smith understood that no 'hounding' of Mr. Woodruff would be tolerated. Second, that Adventure Books staff, since they are coordinating the fundraisers, would answer all questions regarding the upgrading and re-opening of the most famous venue on Earth for DB Cooper fans. (The store, until last year when Dona Elliot died, was the site of the world-famous DB Cooper Days Festival, a celebration that had been running for more than 25 years.)

Second, that Adventure Books would have to approve the final article before we would license Smith the use of the pictures. There was a good reason for this request. Bruce Smith called me (Robert Blevins) on the phone several years ago and insinuated that he worked for a local Northwest newspaper. He asked for an interview on Cooper suspect Ken Christiansen. The interview was done. The interview did not appear in any newspaper, and it was discovered later that Bruce Smith had not worked for that newspaper in some time. Instead, he published the interview to the website Dropzone on their now-closed DB Cooper thread.

In addition, Smith has been known to say disparaging things about the people he has interviewed previously in the Cooper case on his 'Mountain News' blog. Not always, but sometimes. In other words, we do have trust issues with him. Our view is that if he wanted exclusive access, he would have to agree to those terms. Instead, he rejected that notion and began calling and emailing Ariel Store owner Bryan Woodruff. Woodruff directed Smith back to us as the people who would answer all his questions, but Smith refused to accept that and continued hounding Mr. Woodruff. During this time, Woodruff began forwarding Smith's emails to AB staff and notifying us of Smith's multiple phone calls.

Mr. Woodruff responded by permanently banning Smith from ever coming onto his property in Ariel. And ever since that time, Smith has conveniently avoided mentioning that he was offered exclusive access to pictures and an interview under our terms. He has made posts about it at the website The DB Cooper Forum dot com. He claims he was shut from the information loop, which is not true.

He simply refuses to accept that AB of Seattle is the responsible party for the fundraising effort, and that all questions on it come to us. And that is not our fault he does that. Smith is just not being honest, and we have the emails between he and Adventure Books to prove it.

It is true we continue to be wary of Smith because of his less-than-honest attitude.

And as a character in the sci-fi film Dark City once said:

'And now you know the truth...'

Only a wack job would write the crap above.

;)And as a character in the sci-fi film Dark City once said: 'And now you know the truth...' :) ?

Does this guy own a lot of guns and have a record of threats and violence? Displays paranoia and is a recluse? Makes grandiose paranoid claims and claims importance?

As the wackjob who wrote the above says: 'And now you know the truth...'

Is Dona's family aware of what is going on?

To address Mr Blevins and Mr Woodruff:

Personal statement:   "This whole thing is silly at it's core. Let me be the first to say: who gives a "shit" if the Ariel Store closes or not! I could care less and millions feel the same. So, good luck nudniks! Find some other chicken to milk! Wage Earner Sheeple! Look for a free meal elsewhere."

If Bobby had only said he would snuggle with me after giving his exclusive interview, I might have accepted his generous offer.

I agree with Georger. the whole thing is silly. what's with all the rules? you simply answer the questions you want, or tell the guy to move onto something else. will press badges be required while entering the establishment. guys with 3 piece suits, and ear phones walking about the property, dogs, barbed wire, Ex TSA employee's manning the front door ;D

Is this what Dona would of wanted, someone else calling the shots? shutting out the public. flip flopping through phases?

Silly indeed.

Isn't it DB Cooper and other crimes, or something like that? he can't even hold a title to the forum without changing it.

It's about control. Blevins wants to be in control. The only thing he is really in control of is a forum that has zero members.

In control and 'central'. And that's where the problem starts. So far as I know the Ariel Store was always a kind of neutral platform where all kinds of people could gather and relax and be welcome, for the mostpart. I wonder if that can continue under a new regime. If it can't then it loses its attraction as a central gathering place where a broad slice of viewpoints and personalities would be welcome and safe. The Store has always been like a large family. Dona's shoes will be hard to fill! Somebody needed to be there 24-7 to keep things going and keep the dream alive.

The Ariel Store was a time capsule, and the clock is always running!

I felt I got a true view of the Ariel Store in operation in August 2013 when Meyer and I stopped by on our search for the Amboy Chute. When we showed up at about 1 pm on a warm Saturday afternoon, the store and tavern were closed. So, Meyer and I strolled about the frontage, and apparently Dona heard us, so she unlocked the door and welcomed us in. We told her who we were, and we headed to the memorabilia section in the back of the tavern.

We talked for awhile, and Meyer was very excited to meet her and see the stuff, as this was his first time to the Center of Cooper Country. After about fifteen minutes of schmoozing, Bryan appeared, and joined the conversation.

Over the next half-hour he told us about his poetry, Jesus, and living with his mother. He even read a poem at Meyer's behest.

About this time, a touristy couple came by and wanted to talk Cooper. Dona engaged them and took them over to the merch counter, which is in the quiet area where she cooks hot dogs during the Cooper Days party. They hung out for about fifteen minutes.

In the hour that Meyer and I were at the Ariel Store, not one person came in looking for a beer. My sense is that there is virtually no business at the Ariel Store other than Cooper. There is nothing sold there, either. No canned goods or sundries, or anything that one might think would be in a "store."

But the couple were a young Portlandia-looking crew, and they seemed really hungry for Cooper knowledge. I felt sad that they could only get a little of what they wanted from Dona - that her knowledge and the store's displays were just too primitive and undeveloped.

Ironically, Dona does not know a lot about the DB Cooper skyjacking. Further, she is like a lot of people who attend the November festival, in that since they are from the area they consider themselves to be experts in the case. They're not. Facts are few and far between at the Ariel Tavern, and it reminds me in some ways of a physical manifestation of the Dropzone - quirky, opinionated, occasionally well-informed, and often not. Add in a lot of drunk and drinking Cooperites, and you have the Cooper Daze, especially the crowd that hangs out on the street. Think Cooper Vortex with LOTS of alcohol, few teeth, and a general attitude that "rehab is for quitters."

In fact, one year I left the party around 8 pm because I was alone and I didn't feel safe. In other years, I have been in the company of others - usually the Formans, and last time I had Robb Heady as my Wing Man, and EVick was our navigator!!!  Woo-hoo.

The band that plays at Ariel is great, and they've been there for fifteen years or so. The place rocks. Lots of people ready to dance, and the dancers (aka "the normal people") hang out inside the tavern area. The Cooper experts, film crews, authors, researchers, and people wanting to converse and mingle with Cooper people hang out in the merch area. Robb ruled that forum back in 2013. The Formans are always there, too. I usually cruise through the crowd, and the last time I was there I got my ass pinched by a 60-something hottie. First time since I was a shopping mall Santa Claus. That was back in '91, and I never knew that Santa was a sex-object. Who knew? No one told me, that's for sure. But it was fun. Both times.

I take it that Dona was comfortable enough financially to taking care of the property and didn't have to worry about the business being in the red. Cooper will never bring you from rags to riches, unless you find him. then I think that would also be a short period of fame. most of the younger generation think it's a waste of the tax payers money looking for him. I see a lot of mixed opinions about Cooper. that's why I asked earlier if this was a community cause, or a Cooper cause. I was never there, so my opinion is different from the local's who live in Ariel. time, and change doesn't always work well. take televisions shows for example. if they change a character most of the time they show fails, or if they try and create a new version of "Rat Patrol" without original members it ends up tanking at the box office.

I hope Bryan is business savvy enough to pull this off and keep his mothers flame going in the future, but I have my doubts about the whole thing.

I think the Ariel Tavern was somewhere between a "business" and  "hobby".  It was on the top floor of the house (the house is built on the side of a hill and the top floor is street level).  She wouldn't pay anything extra for the space.  She didn't have regular employees.  She didn't continually buy and maintain inventory.  She opened when it made sense to and not when it didn't.

"The DB Cooper Days" was well attended when I went, but before I went to the event, I had gone there a couple of times during the regular "store" hours and was told to knock.  It was definitely more laid back than what you'd expect if it were a regular general store.

Thanks Mark, it appears to have worked for Dona over the years. anyway you look at it, it was a nice thing she did over the years. basically, it's not a store, and really not a bar from what I'm learning here. the only busy periods would be special events. that's all good if you have the means to do it. will it continue the same as it did in the past? time will tell I guess.

All this BANNING, sure wish it were different. Supposedly some folks are now banned from the Ariel Store.

I wish all DBC forums were open to all people. If some users get out of hand they could be temporarily restricted to a special corner, but still be able to participate without ruining the more civilized threads.

I'd like to see Blevins and Jo have access to this forum, although I know my view is not shared by others.

As far as i know I am not banned from anywhere in Cooperland.... yet.

That might mean I don't matter much in the Vortex. Not visible or influential enough to justify a ban.

Can anybody figure out why Bradley coopers book is listed at such extraordinarily high prices on Amazon?
