Hello, this is my first post but I'm longtime browser. I've enjoyed reading the discussions here and appreciate the effort that has been put into this website.
All the conflicting claims and supposed evidence in the DBC case is really frustrating. Sluggo's website has a nice section on the facts and myths of the DBC case. Unfortunately it has not been updated since 2010. Has any new evidence been released since then? It would be really helpful to have all the physical evidence and witness statements in one place with footnotes as to their source. It could be presented in a hierarchy based on how authoritative it is. For example level 1 is physical evidence, level 2 is eyewitness testimony, level 3 is testimony from individuals who viewed the FBI files, etc. I would start it myself but currently don't have the time or knowledge required.
One thing that has been irking me lately is this: According to Sluggo's website, DBC asked for "$200,000 in cash" and not negotiable American currency as reported on many websites and books. Until the facts are agreed on discussing suspects is an exercise in frustration.
Thanks for the vent. Still on my second cup of coffee this morning.
Until the facts are agreed on discussing suspects is an exercise in frustration. That has always been a problem. Different people claim a different interpretation for the same evidence. A debate over Cooper's money demand had never come up before until Carol (on Tom's team) decided that the crew notes meant that Cooper asked for "negotiable American currency". Nobody had ever read those notes that way before. But, Tom immediately signed on to this 'theory'. That gave the theory status. Next thing you know it has gone public; and now many people claim that "is" what Cooper said ... when it is not clear he actually said "negotiable American currency" at all! Carol goes forward and builds a whole Canadian identity for Cooper based on what may be a false premise.
The same thing happened with the Cooper Comic. Gray brought into question Cooper's clothing, hair, and the physical description after finding contradicting 'evidence' when reading FBI files.
There are people who wonder/claim that the Cooper hijacking never happened at all and was nothing more than a government exercise and ruse! And so it goes ...
That is the internet social climate we live in, and live with. Different people come to this with different motivations. Some have a book or a candidate at stake. Some are trying to promote a business and themselves, only. Some believe the whole Cooper chase is a waste of time. Every time we have ever tried to assemble a common set of facts there has been deep disagreement. It's like herding cats. I started with one single cat on a farm years ago and today there are many (uncountable), and all but my original cat (who died years ago) were dropped off by somebody in the middle of the night, etc.
All I can say is that is the way it is and I doubt it is going to change any time soon. Within those parameters you try to maintain your interest in the Cooper case and do what you can do, and that is the extent of any control you have in this matter, for better or for worse. Here's hoping yours is a happy Cooperland marriage@!
Start with the basic records, PI ATC flight comms transcript, everything WSHM published, and by all means read the latest FBI release of the Campbell interviews of the crew. Then digest Sluggo's site, which is out of date but solid material. That is where I would start if starting fresh today. Good luck!
